An Introduction to the Manga

Revered horror manga author Junji Ito’s Uzumaki is arguably his best and famously haunting and twisted tale about a spiral obsession.

The plot centres on Kirie, a high school student, and Shuichi, her lover, as they solve the secrets of Kurouzu-cho, a town that has been engulfed by a spiral curse.

Kurouzu-cho's inhabitants are trapped in a growing obsession with spirals. Here, KIrie and Shuichi witness bizarre phenomena, such as a snail woman who can create spirals out of thin air and a lighthouse that twists into a spiral staircase.

The spiral curse continues to spiral out of control, leading to gruesome and grotesque body horror that defies all logic. Kirie and Shuichi are determined to break the curse and save their town, but as they dig deeper, they discover that the spirals are not just a physical phenomenon, but also a psychological one.

Can they end the curse before it consumes them as well?

With stunning artwork and a haunting atmosphere, Uzumaki is a chilling tale that has left manga readers feeling spiraled into the depths of horror.

Who is Junji Ito?

From Gifu, Japan comes the famed manga artist and horror author Junji Ito. Ito developed a special kind of horror narrative as a result of his childhood interest with the macabre and horror.

Ito continued his love of comics after completing a dental technician programme at a vocational school, finally becoming well-known for his short horror stories in the publication "Gekkan Halloween." Ito released his debut book, "Tomie," in 1987. It was about a stunning, eternal girl who drives men insane and into infatuation.
