On A Scale Of 1-10, How Good Is Kakegurui?

Kakegurui meaning compulsive gambler is a psychological thriller anime. Since its release, it was in the limelight.

The animation style is impressive, to say the least, and I have loved the attributes each character had.

It is set in the Hyakkou private academy where only the elite people were present.

The Hyakkou Private Academy was a bit different from the other schools we see.

In other schools, the students were judged on the basis of their achievements in academics and co-curricular participation.

In the Hyakkou Private Academy, a student’s potential was judged by their achievements in gambling.

The hierarchy was twisted but the students enjoy it.

The hierarchy was determined by gambling. Students were ranked by their monetary contributions to the student council.

Those who win, earn popularity, money, and fame whereas those who lose, fall deep into debt and become house pets known as ‘dogs’ and ‘kittens’.

The protagonist was Yumeko Jabami, a beautiful girl who recently transferred to Hyakkou.

As soon as she stepped in, the tables turned and the system changed.

Unrestrained by rules or logic, Yumeko threatened to destroy the twisted hierarchy of the school as she continued to seek thrill in her life.

Student Council And Its Hierarchy System?

The student council was the foundation of this hierarchy which had been in trend since Kirari Momobami took the position of the president of the student council.

She made gambling in school compulsory.

Only the elite students, who paid their part of the donation to the school were allowed to be a part of the student council.

Being a member of the student council, everybody was assigned positions whose requirements they needed to meet.

Some of the strongest players in Kakegurui

But the student council members were barely seen doing their part of the job.

For instance, Kirari Momobami was the president of the student council, but she only cared about herself and the game.

She had no qualities of being the president yet she was one of the most iconic characters.

Starting from a manga that engaged in a very uncommon high school environment, Kakegurui takes many different directions.

The characters weren’t fighting or creating some sort of harem or chaos, instead, the focus was on gambling, winning, drama, and competitions.

On A Scale Of 1-10, How Good Is Kakegurui? Is It Worth Watching?

Kakegurui is supposed to be a gambling anime but as the series moved forward it took a darker approach.

The actual aspect of the anime got lost. Most of the scenes were overly sexualized.

There was a scene where Yumeko was almost raped by Manyuda and his friends.

No one took any action against it, not even Yumeko herself. This was unacceptable.

The way the characters moaned in the anime was uncomfortable to watch. But in the end, it all depends on the viewers' comfort.

If the viewer can handle excessive amounts of overly sexualized scenes, then one should go for it.

Despite that, the anime has a lot of curse words and violent scenes. Just when Midari Ikishima was playing Russian roulette, she staked her life for it.

Midari also took her eye out just to pay a debt Kirari. These violent scenes are not appropriate to watch for preteens and kids.

But on the plus side, if as a viewer you feel comfort and experience thrill via these kinds of entertainments, it’s pretty good. Every character had a wild side.

An intimate moment of Yumeko

The faces might be scary but we’re also satisfactory to watch.

Kakegurui was thrilling, and exciting, and had a good animation but the only con that the anime had was the over-sexualization.

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys gambling and going full psycho all over again it’s the most suitable anime for you.

But if you find yourself uncomfortable around sexualized scenes, this may not be a good choice. It all depends on the maturity of the viewer.

Definitely 8 out of 10 to me.

Thanks for reading!!
